First of all I bought mine at Wally world. I know some people would say it's Un-American, but parts of Stanley/ Bostitch's massive umbrella is overseas. Now on the topic of Wally world, they employ many Americans keep the global economy turning and provide services for many families who can't afford other stores prices! Also I got this very same box for $21 there!!! Anywho, this box fit my Makita hypoid saw, cordless drill, speed square, drill bits, and 3 saw blades.(why don't some worm gear saws come with boxes?) Pretty impressive! I tried my 36v Dewalt saw and seperately a DeWalt "sidewinder" with all the above items and they fit. Unsure if the divot/ruler molded into the lid will come in handy or not. The water "resistant" seal has a nice tight fit and seems to be made of good rubber. The tray is a cute accessory if you can use it, in my case not so much. Nice firm handle on the lid, nice clasps with a little lock hole. All in all, a great buy be carefull not to over pack can get heavy. Always shop around!!!

Grip 23 Gauge Air Pin Nailer Review

Grip 23 Gauge Air Pin Nailer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This pin nailer met my expectations. I used Porter Cable brand pins in poplar and it fired consistently and countersunk the pins without a problem. It includes a pre-attached 1/4" industrial air fitting, two allen wrenches, a bottle of oil and a blow-molded case.
Overall I found the value to be exceptional, especially considering the price of competing tools. However, there are some annoyances with this tool, the combination of which caused me to give this tool 4 rather than 5 stars.
1) There is a safety mechanism behind the trigger that rotates down to keep the trigger from pulling, or rotates up to allow firing. I found that this rotates down occasionally during use and has to be flipped back up. This is my biggest complaint about the tool, though the mechanism could be permanently disabled without much effort if one wanted to go that route.
2) The ad and packaging state that, "Nail length regulator automatically sets nails to your desired length." I mistook this to mean that the counter-sink depth could be controlled. In fact, what this is trying to say is that there is a selector on the side of the tool that must be changed based on the length of pin you are using. I don't have a problem with that per se, except that the selector is metric (lists pin lengths in mm). My Porter Cable pin packaging fortunately shows the pin lengths in both standard and SI. The sizes don't exactly match up with those available on the selector, but the pins seem to work ok using the next largest setting on the tool.
3) The ad and packaging state, "Single sequential safety trip mechanism." I have no idea what this is supposed to mean, unless the saftey mechanism I referred to in #1 is supposed to rotate down after every trigger pull (which would be extremely annoying). The instructions don't address this feature at all.
4) The instructions are atrocious. They have a few liability and safety warnings followed by some vague instructions (mostly about oiling the tool), all written in such poor English as to be nearly incomprehensible. On top of that, all of the units are metric, including a warning about the number of mega-pascals that the air supply should not exceed. This does not, in my opinion, decrease the usability of the tool, as the operation is pretty straight forward, but it is an annoyance that the manufacturers and the US distributor would be content with the quality of the instructions.

Hardcore Tools® Dual HARDWOOD FLOORING AIR Flooring Cleat Nailer / Stapler Gun Kit Review

Hardcore Tools® Dual HARDWOOD FLOORING AIR Flooring Cleat Nailer / Stapler Gun Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I rented a Bostitch MIIIFS for the weekend to install hardwood floors and realized that it was going to take me a bit more time to complete the job.
After shopping around I found the Hardcore Tools HARDWOOD FLOORING AIR NAILER STAPLER. At a third of the price to buy the Bostitch and less than the cost to continue renting, I made the purchase.
The Hardcore stapler has a lower profile rear and forward allowing you to use it on the second row to and from the wall instead of the third row with the Bostitch, with our 3 ¼" boards. The Hardcore stapler is also lighter, reducing fatigue for this part-time-do-it-yourselfer. Quality is also good, and has held up well under my amateurish handling. This unit came with a great storage case, oil, spare base plate, and goggles making for a nice bundle.
The only minus to this tool is that it is less forgiving than the Bostitch in placement on the board, so I found myself having to adjust its position to avoid misstapling.
Overall, I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend this stapler for the casual home remodeler.

Porta-Nails 401P Porta-Nailer Hardwood Floor Nailer Review

Porta-Nails 401P Porta-Nailer Hardwood Floor Nailer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
What separates this nailer from other similar designs (e.g., Bostitch) is that it uses a ratcheting device that enables you to drive the nails with more than one swing. This feature works well, and is quite innovative. Learning to use a floor nailer takes some practice (and strength) to be able to drive the nail cleanly in one blow, and beginners will benefit greatly from being able to strike several times in order to seat the nail (or "cleat") fully. Those with experience will also benefit when nailing in awkward positions (those double-handed backhand shots) and close to the walls.
There is a drawback to this approach, however, which is that it will take twice as many blows to finish the job. The manual suggests that you should take two blows on every nail, and they discourage using a single, strong blow. But if you keep the nailer well lubricated (a dry spray lubricant like WD40 or, even better, BoeShield T-9), you should be able to drive the nail in one blow after the tool breaks in (and you break in :-). Lubrication is important, since it will help flush out the residue that builds up inside the tool. Bring the hammer up above your head, strike cleanly, and you'll eventually be able to sink the nail in one blow. Good technique is more important than strength, and this nailer will enable you to build good technique without the frustration of half-sunk nails.
A couple of other notes:
First, you CANNOT use the face-nailer shoe as the above post suggests. I looked at the online manuals from the manufacturer, and it looked like it would work, so I ordered the face-nailer shoe. It does not fit - the bolt holes do not line up, and there's no way to modify the piece in order to make them line up. I suspect this is intentional, which is unfortunate because it looks entirely possible and this would be a great feature. For those not familiar with "face-nailing," this is the way that you start and end each room, and it tends to be the most tedious part of any job. For a small project (a couple of roooms), you can get away with face-nailing by hand. Hold the nail (either a cleat or a 8p finish nail) in a pair of pliers to help avoid bending it. If you're doing 800 feet or more, I HIGHLY recommend purchasing a pneumatic nailgun. It will speed up the job drastically, and will take away the tedium of starting the first few rows or finishing the last four. Get a 15-guage finish nailer and drive nails every 5-6 inches (instead of 10 inches for the cleats). It's not cheap, but you'll find many other uses for the pneumatic nailer, such as putting in the shoe molding. It's definitely money well spent.
Even with a nailer, you're bound to still get bent cleats or unseated cleats every now and then. If they're bent, you can break them off by bending them back and forth. If they're too far in to break them off, you can grind them off with a Dremel tool and cutoff disk. If they're not seated all the way, you can countersink them manually. I use a replaceable screwdriver bit that has been ground off square on the opposite end, and hold it in a pair of Vice-Grips. It takes some practice, but works well.
Finally, buy more nails than you think you'll need. The boxes say that 1000 nails will cover 200 feet, but I think that's optimistic. I've done two houses now, and in both cases I used 50% more nails than they suggest. Try to buy the nails locally, since shipping them tends to break up the groups. You can find local dealers on the Porta-Nails web site, and they usually sell them at Lowe's or Home Depot.
To sum up, this is really an indispensable tool, and this model is a good choice. It seems durable enough, and is from an innovative small company (their router table is still one of the best out there). Good luck with your floors.

Senco 4A001N 5/8-Inch Button Cap Stapler
Average Reviews:

If you are reading this, most likely you already know what it does. The gun itself is very nice, I only have two problems with it.
First, it only shoots up to 5/8" long staples, not much good with build-rite or foam sheeting, and second, it is hard to find staples and caps locally for it. So besides that, it works very well for house wraps and roofing papers.
I would probably look at the bostitch if I was to buy again, it seems like you can buy caps and staples for that one any where. But I have never used it so I can't say much more than that.

Based on appearance these look like they're Grip-Rite nails BUT
1. They came in a beat-up generic box - not the "manufacturer's original packaging".
2. There were absolutely no identifying markings on or inside the box. Taped to the outside of the box was a fragment of a box flap from some other box of nails but it didn't have any part numbers or even the manufacturer name on it.
3. The nails were just thrown into a bag and dropped in the box.
4. Several strips were damaged or broken
For the price ($33.79 delivered) it isn't worth the trouble to wrestle a 55lb return. The undamaged strips work OK so I'll let it slide.

I recently ordered a box of these nails along with a nail gun and hose. Big mistake. Almost every coil was crushed, many broken. I tried to recoil the nails by unwinding the crushed coils and then recoiling them but it still didn't work as many broke then and the ones I tried to use jammed repeatedly in the gun. I would just avoid this item unless they can find a better way to package them or ensure that they are in good condition.

Grizzly H3401 Nail Gun Carrying Bag Review

Grizzly H3401 Nail Gun Carrying Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My Bostich N88RH Heavy Duty Round Head nailer "JUST" fits in this carry bag! My Bostich came bare in its shipping box, so finding this bag was great. Keep in mind, this bag was designed to carry Grizzly nailers. The zipper just closes over my Bostich. Still... it serves its purpose: to offer some protection to your nailer; keeps dust/dirt at bay; and comes with a shoulder carry strap. There are a pair of fastening straps inside at the bottom of the bag. I only purchased one bag since I figured, if I couldn't fit the Bostich inside, I could carry a pair of DeWalt finish nailers with the interior straps securing them. There is a small sleeve pocket inside touted to carry strips of nails... it's not large enough to carry many and would be a pain in the [...]when (inevitably) they slid out to bang around inside. It seems pretty useless for that application. It makes a good sleeve to tuck away the operators manual and oil bottle, though! :)
The construction seems very sturdy with a heavy duty zipper closure and the case has a stiff (not rigid) bottom. It has a pair of hand-carry straps which you can hold together with an attached velcro wrap and an adjustable length shoulder strap for carrying the bag for distance in relative comfort. I used this bag to try fitting DeWalt 15ga and 18ga finish nailers and they fit great. The adjustable straps at the bottom of the bag secure the nailers tightly. Update - I have purchased a second bag for the finish nailers. I doubled over a large piece of cardboard to slip between the nailers to protect them from rubbing and knocking against each other.

I general contracted my own house build about three years ago. I noticed back in 2003 that my framing crew exclusively used the Senco framing nailers. In January of 2006 I decided to start finishing my basement (on my own this time) but I needed a framing nailer. I called "Jay" my original house framer to get a recommendation on framing nailers. He said that all he will ever use are Senco nailers. He has been using them for years and they are very reliable. He specifically mentioned the 701XP as the nailer his crew preferred. I went with his recommendation and am very pleased with it. I just finished two rooms in the basement, going through probably 1000 nails in the process...not a single jam. The Senco has "teeth" on the tip which make it easier to toe nail with than some of the other nailers. It is very powerful and has no problems burying a 3 inch nail perfectly at 90 pounds of air pressure. I've never bought a framing nailer before so I don't have much to compare it to. But, this nailer does a great job and the Amazon price is much better than I could get at one of my local big box discount stores at the time. Based on my experience I will stick with Senco for the entire line of air nailers that I'm going to need to finish my project. The other great advantage of the Senco nailer is that you can buy nails for it at just about any lumber yard or home discount store. If you go with a cheaper brand of nailer there's a good chance that you'll be limited on where you will be able go get nails for it, so stick with a popular brand that is used by the big boys, such as the Senco.

This tool is worth every penny. Not only does it do a great job, it's a great price. We put in about 850sq feet of hickory floors and never had a problem. Shipping was still quite a bit, but considering the price of the gun you are still getting a great deal. You do have to make sure you old the gun down or the staple or cleat will stick up, but that is a user issue not an issue with the gun. My husband used it on most of the floor, but it was even easy enough for me (his wife) to use. Would reccomend this for any type of user!!!

Senco HN250 Joist Hanger Nailer Review

Senco HN250 Joist Hanger Nailer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I only recently acquired this nailer so I can't offer much advice on its use and durability. In essence, what Senco has done is re-purpose the pneumatic driver from their Palm nailer by adding an extended nose piece, magazine, and handle. If you expect it to drive a nail in one hit, like a standard nailgun, you'll be surprised. The way you use this thing is to insert the point of the nail (which protrudes about 1/4" from the nosepiece)into the hole in a metal joist hanger and push down. This activates the Palm-Nailer powerhead which proceeds to administer consecutive hammer blows to the nailhead until it is fully driven. The powerhead then stops automatically. This process is pretty quick and certainly an improvement over using your fingers and a hammer.
One thing that was a challenge for me is figuring out what nails to use. The user manual says to "use only genuine Senco fasteners...". But, alas, there are no Senco part numbers I could find for this type of nailgun. I had to work with a hardware supplier who had to contact his Senco rep twice before being told that this gun can use any "...31-35 degree joist hanger nails". Further research revealed that the correct specs are: "35 degree paper strip collated metal connector nails of .131", .148", .162" in diameter and either 1.5" or 2.5" in length. Nails can be either bright nickel finish or hot dipped galvanized". I have successfully fired Bostich galvanized StrapShot Metal connector nails 1.5" x .148" and 2.5" x .162" in my gun.
Although I don't have the similar Senco HN150 Joist Nail Hanger, my research leads me to believe that it will not handle the .162" diameter nails. That seems to be the major difference between it and the HN250 that is the subject of this review.
I hope this helps someone.
